What are the food and accommodations like?
Meals at Light on the Hill are gourmet vegetarian with many vegan options. They use organic ingredients wherever possible.
They are able to accommodate simple dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan. However, if a person has a more restrictive diet than this, they suggest that the person bring his or her own food. Those wanting meat may bring cold cuts and cans of tuna, etc. but no meat is allowed to be cooked on the premises. They ask that no liquor be served.
Tea and light snacks (fruit, nut butters, and rice cakes) are provided throughout the day for group retreats in the lodge.
Accommodation is private. The simple carpeted rooms have comfortable beds, excellent soundproofing, heat, and ceiling fans, as well as a large window overlooking the beautiful grounds. Four bathrooms with a total of 8 showers and 10 toilets are a short walk down one of the halls.
What are the required readings?
Before Session 1
Original Wisdom: Stories of an Ancient Way of Knowing by Robert Wolff
Wolff takes us with him as he discovers the Sng’oi, an aboriginal culture in Malaysia – and as he discovers them, we discover ourselves, and see what we have lost, and what I strive in my work to regain. A beautiful, moving, illuminating little book.
Before Session 2
TEPP Facilitator's Manual - which you'll receive at the conclusion of the first session
Before Session 3
Radical Wholeness
What are the payment options?
The cost of each of the three retreat sessions is $2150 US ($6450 USD for the year). This includes the 5-day immersion (with 5 nights private accommodation and all meals), weekly video calls for the year of the training, a facilitators’ manual, online resources to support you through the training and a key teaching aid. It will also include fun, because it’s in the spirit of play that we most fully engage and learn.
The year of training should be paid in full prior to the start of session two. By signing up for the training you are expressing a commitment to complete the full year. Payment can be made in 1, 3, or 6 instalments.

*Transportation to the venue is not included but we will do our best to facilitate car-pooling.
What do I need to prepare?
As in the Radical Wholeness workshop, some of the exercises require that you know a short text by heart. Rest assured, this is not something you will ever be asked to perform – it’s just needed for some of the exercises. You can use one you are familiar with, or find a new one. It can be anything at all – a nursery rhyme, a song lyric, a Shakespearean monologue, the national anthem, a poem, anything. It really doesn’t matter, although it does help if it’s something you enjoy. It can get pretty tedious saying, “Row, row, row your boat” over and over. Just saying…
Whatever you choose to memorize, it should be at least 45 seconds long, though any length in excess of that is fine. If English isn’t your first language, feel free to bring something in your mother tongue. Having it WELL memorized is important.
What should I bring?
You might wish to bring a reusable water bottle or travel coffee mug. Please bring clothes that are comfortable to move in. You might also wish to bring a notebook.
Light ob the Hill provides sheets and towels. They encourage you to bring:
slippers or heavy socks as they ask that shoes be removed at the doorcomfortable walking shoes and suitable warm clothing for winter walkspersonal toiletriesoutdoor towels for swimming and/or sweat lodgesmedications for allergies (especially bees/wasps)
How does the group communicate?
In your registration confirmation email you'll see an address you can use to contact the whole group. Communicating between sessions is so helpful to supporting each other’s learning and deepening the connection of the group. Please add the address to your address book to help ensure you don’t miss any messages!
We also have a Mighty Networks community group just for this facilitator training. Details to come upon registration.
Getting there is half the fun
We’ve created a shared document called "The Hero’s Journey" on Google Drive. The link to this document is in your registration confirmation email. Please fill in your arrival and contact details and whether you need or can offer a ride. A few people are coming from far away and would appreciate offers of help in this way. Please also indicate any dietary needs.
Transportation to the venue is not included but we'll do our best to help people connect and carpool. Elmira or Ithaca have airports and are each about 30 min away. For driving instructions click here.
How many people are in each cohort?
We limit the group to 20 participants to allow for intimate sharing and connection.
TEPP Trainees' Workshop Discount Code
All TEPP trainees can take a weekend workshop during the year of training at a 50% discount. We will send you the code to use once you're enrolled in the facilitator training.
